All of us mammals started out with four legs. Some of us took to standing on our hindquarters, some took to the air, some found that jumping about on the back legs was a good way to get around. But most mammals stayed down on all fours. When a ground animal is hunting, and it doesn´t use tools, running on all fours is the best way to do it. The animal can go very fast, go very far, and the pray is most likley running on four legs also, so they´re evenly matched. Wild dogs are pack animals, they hunt by a system where they corner and/or wear the pray down. It´s a system that works well, gets results, and there´s no need to change it, so they stayed on all fours.
