  • Anders is a Scandinavian form of Andrew. I have just looked on a meesageboard for the name Anders on ancestry.com and it confirms people with the name as both a first name and family name in Sweden and Denmark. I presume you would also find it in Norway and some of the other Baltic states. To find out where your family is from exactly, you have to start with yourself and work back, gathering as many certificates of your ancestors (parents, grandparents etc as well as their siblings) until you arrive at the ancestors(s) who first came to your country. You may be able to find where they come from and continue searching in the home country, but I would think this is a common name and you may run into the diffifulties that many do when they reach areas of high concentration of particular surnames. However, don't give up. There are lots of resources on the net to help eg rootsweb.com, ancestry. com, familysearch.org etc All the best
