My 2004 Jeep runs at the right temperature on the open road, but if I get in stop and go traffic or idle the engine temperature soars. Why?

99 ford escort.starts then stall immediatly. hold gas petal down and runs poorly, changed the maf with a used one and still the same prob.

You're reading I changed my plugs, rotor, and distributor cap. My pickup had no power and started buring up the spark plug wires. The wires that burn through are the 2 back ones on the right hand side. What could cause this. The manifold glows on the last 2 cylinders
