Question

Help answer this question below.

I changed my plugs, rotor, and distributor cap. My pickup had no power and started buring up the spark plug wires. The wires that burn through are the 2 back ones on the right hand side. What could cause this. The manifold glows on the last 2 cylinders

Not sure what vehicle you are referring to, but I will respond based on basic auto knowledge. Your plug wires are obviously burning due to excessive manifold temperatures, (but you already knew that). It sounds like you have a vacuum leak in the intake system, causing a lean condition in these 2 cyclinders, which would cause the heating discrepency you are describing.

If your exhaust manifold is glowing than one of two things is way off:

    1) Your ignition timing (easy to check)

    2) Your valve timing (a little harder to check)

Generally, a vacuum leak will cause a rough idle, but not have a large effect on power.

Make sure your ignition timing is set to the correct specs. If it is and you still have problems, check to see if your camshaft timing is correct. A stretched timing chain can jump over teeth on the sprockets.

    Good luck.
