I think it's good that you are prepared to work hard and show that you aren't a lazy person, but what about working smarter instead of always working hard when sometimes it's not necessary.

Hard work gives you a sense of accomplishment. If you are willing to accept less, and live that way (without leeching off welfare) it is ones own perogotive. Not everyone was raised to appreciate hard work. I do think that everyone should experience hard work at some point in their lives, preferably at a young age where it has a greater impact on ones life and future life path.

I think it is a personal thing...work ethic or something close to that. Some people feel they don't deserve money or much money unless they work hard for it. Others in another profession, can do something that to them is easy and doesn't take a long time, and charge alot per job or per hour for their "work." I personally have always loved what I do, and I work fairly hard, but have always been able to make as much as I wanted in 20-30 hours a week, versus the 40-60 hours a week many others making the same amount of money work. I don't feel guilty about it. I feel I have provided a good amount of time and skill and they are worth what I have been paid. As long as I am proud of the job I have done, I don't count how long it takes or what i get paid.

I don't believe there is "virtue" in hard work. It's definitely OK to work less and enjoy life. My father and mother both worked long hard hours. As a result, they missed many worthwhile experiences.
