  • Maybe they think the characters look too edgy, note cutesy like the old time cartoon characters.
  • Alot of people don't like the styles, but often times, watch only 1 single anime, or episode and base ALL anime off of that one person's style and work. Not all anime is the same, and especially not the art style. That's like saying, "Why go to an art museum? All the paintings look the same to me." People probably just haven't watched enough and don't have a taste for it.
  • I really don't know. I guess it's because I was raised up in an anime-loving family, and I'm also half-Japanese. I see absolutely no reason to hate anime. I mean, so many people - mainly Caucasians - say they hate anime, it's so annoying! And they always say anime as "ann-i-may," instead of how it's meant to be pronounced, like the way it's written: "a-ni-me."
  • Because it is utter drivel.
  • I think because it's so wildly popular. Sometimes people get a kick out of disliking what others do just to be different or to demonstrate intrinsic need for superiority. Maybe? Just conjecture.
  • I hate anime because they're just cartoons and anime fans fail to see that. I hate how anime fans think they can say and do what they want because they watch cartoon characters be hardcore. I hate how anime fans think that every single freaking anime is a blockbuster hit! I hate how anime fans think that Japan is all about anime, unless they are, then that's pretty darn sad. I know, it sounds like I just hate the fans and it's because of them that I stopped my fandom. People take it too far, it's just ink and paper! Or in some cases, bits of data! Grow up already! It's cool to be fasinated with something but don't make it your life and don't learn Japanese just to understand some cartoons!
  • It's not everybody's cup of tea. I don't watch all anime shows. Just the good ones ;)
  • Cause they are jealous! Cause they can't make cartoons as cute.
  • Some people think it's weird, some people think it's stupid, some people think it's evil, some people don't get it, and some people hate it just because it's popular.
  • lets face it: this world is a judgemental place. people who only see anime as Pokemon or Naruto find it stupid and for seven year old boys. im an anime enthusiast (which includes me knowing how to pronounce it) and all my friends call it "scary and wierd" because theyve never been exposed to it before. for me its a more enjoyable way of letting out my feelings than just writing.
  • Because 99.9% of it is just so lame. And most of it is perverted.
  • um because they suck. (Not the cartoons- the people)
  • Because for some artists like me who have seen the comics community and market and have spoken to diffrent representatives from numerous companies, anime has saturated the market. Sure I guess there may be a few people who hate anime SIMPLY because its popular but that's pretty stupid. Hating something that you don't fully understand is just baseless discrimination. However, there are certian people out there (like me I will admit) that "hate" anime simply because its everywhere, and they can't seem to escape it. Its seeping into every tendrel of our society now-a-days and its the over exposure to it and the near fanatical legions of constantly growing fans who swarm after it, that make it unlikable. I'm sorry but I cannot stand anime fans (or people who are devout fans of ANYTHING for that matter) who say people that don't like or even hate that very thing they like suck. (I do belive that "suck" statment was posted above). Everyone has the free will to think and like and hate certian things. If someone hates what you like, well that's their perogative. They have the right to not like the things you love and you have the right to do the same. I've read my fair share of great anime and I won't hesitate in the least to say that my style is influenced by it. But the fact that anime is now taking over everything and causing young artists to fall on it as a crutch (whether knowingly or unknowingly...its not always their fault) is, in my opinion slowly eating away at the comic/artistic community, especially among young poeple.
  • People like and dislike different things. My guess is that they just don't get it. That's usually where hate begins. Some people use what is on TV as examples. That's just stupid. Most of the good stuff has never been on TV, in the United States. I don't want to try to convince them that (some) anime is good. I just don't want to hear them b**ch about why it's "lame". Then I'll be forced to tell them what boring people they are. That's the way it usually ends. Still, nothing irks me more than guys who pretend to like anime, go to conventions to hook up with girls. I'm not there to get a date. I'm there to be entertained, and see friends I only see once a year.
  • I don't particularly like the exaggerated facial features in most anime (e.g. the exaggerated, "Precious Moments-type" eyes). Not that I "hate" anime... I just don't care for it.
  • The artwork is all the same; Pointy faced, big eyed, spikey haired ponces, wearing clothes that even the campest of lexx fans wouldn't be seen dead in. The fight scenes could induce epilepsy in someone who is blind, deaf and brain dead.... I mean, what the fuck is with all the flashing lights, 200' jumps and ridiculously over the top weaponry? I'd expect that shit from a vin diesel flick, not a 'supposedly' sophisticated medium.... pfft. The question that SHOULD be asked here is why do some people LIKE anime? Grow the fuck up!
  • Because, they'd rather be stuck-up and boring.
  • Many reasons actually, most of them come from being close minded ^_^ I know I like it because I can appreciate the art behind it, like how the proportions can be very close to being correct. They hate it because: -Their hair can have unnatural colors (like Marge Simpson) -Their hair can be in perfect spikes (Bart Simpson) -It can be perverted (like Family Guy) -The detail sucks (South Park) -The heads/eyes can be bigger than normal humans(basically any American cartoon today). -Cartoons are for kids(someone obviously has not watched late night cartoons) Sorry if anyone took this parody in offence ^-^
  • They're just mad that they can't draw that good (I love Gundam Wing! + many others)
  • I'm sure that there are plenty of people that 'hate' it for the reason that you hate anything. Maybe it offends their sensibilities or they find it childish or uninteresting. In the US we are raised and educated in a way (less so now) that teaches or implies that animation is for entertaining children and is often vacuous and simpleminded because of that. I personally like anime/manga as well as traditional art and 'American' animation, but it's not an issue to me if other people dislike it or even feel that they need to 'hate' it. (I have more of an issue with the word 'hate' than anything else; I don't really 'hate' anything...) But I do have a problem with people who won't let other people like what they like. I don't like being told that I'm 'stupid' or 'immature' because I like anime/manga, and that my interest 'sucks'. In that situation is obviously just an insecure person attacking someone else and their interests to make themselves 'feel better' and 'look more mature'. Give me a break, already.
  • Just a matter of opinion really. Some people like steak more than instant noodles.
  • It seems all anime fans are hardcore fangirls and fanboys that flock to this cult-like fad, with little tolerance for the few that dislike it. Personally, I dislike or hate it, for a few reasons: -Very unoriginal cartoons that are influenced by the old American cartoons. -Exceptionally serious/silly/violent/sexual or dramatic; extremes, similar to American soap opera but in cartoon style. (I'm talking Berserk, Grave of the Fire Flies, Spirited Away and the like). Oftentimes, anime has a few main characters at max, and one perspective. Very boring. All I could think of for now.
