    Asker's Pick

Selected by the asker, Ombliss22. (What's this?)

Freely you have received, and freely you shall give. I get what your saying though. And it would be ok in my mind if it is done in deed, not in words. By example rather than proselytizing. It is so ironic. Valentines is after a pagan religion start four thousand years ago. It has been adopted by the Catholic church as a celebration of a St. Valentines. "Archaeologists say they have unearthed Lupercale-the sacred cave where, according to legend, a she-wolf nursed the twin founders of Rome and where the city itself was born.

The long-lost underground chamber was found beneath the remains of Emperor Augustus’ palace on the Palatine, a 230-foot-tall (70-meter-tall) hill in the center of the city…

According to myth, Lupercale is where a she-wolf suckled Romulus and Remus, the twin sons of the war god Mars and mortal priestess Rhea Silvia, who had been abandoned in a cradle on the bank of the Tiber River…

Every year on February 15 ancient priests killed a dog and two goats and smeared the foreheads of two boys from noble families with the sacrificial blood as part of the Lupercalia celebration. (Valsecchi, Maria Cristina. Sacred Cave of Rome’s Founders Discovered, Archaeologists Say. National Geographic News. January 26, 2007. January 26, 2007. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/01/070126-rome-palatine.html)

And the there is the whole Halloween, Christmas, Easter, ect., ect.. Long story short why should this little boy be restricted in spreading more religion. They teach our children with religion from the preschool stage. Separation of church and state? Hardly think so.

Yeah, I don't think it is right to ban a kid from handing out pamphlets of a religious nature or telling other kids about his religious beliefs.
Sure, teachers and other staff should not be able to - as part of the separation of church and state - but it's a different matter if kids want to tell kids about stuff.
Mind you, this also means that if a budding little satanist/buddhist/pagan/wiccan wants to hand out valentines messages with their religious message in it, they must be free to as well.

No. Children should be at school to learn, not handing out cards showing off their imaginary friends. It's just bad form.

If it is the kids own idea, I see nothing wrong with it, break-time is free time where the kids can talk about whatever, and the other kids are equally free to respond.

But if Mummy or Daddy 'guided' the kid into doing it, and helped to formulate the message then it is not OK. Not at all OK. That would be proselytizing (and dishonest to boot).

Depends on how it's done. I don't see anything wrong with it. If other kids don't want what's given out, they can file-13 it.

It's called "freedom of religion" and "freedom of speech." These are guaranteed to us under the 1st Amendment. Now, first of all, I must clarify something. You cannot "sell" Jesus. He is not for sale. He's not some item that you trade for money or power. That's not how becoming a Christian works.

Should Children be allowed to talk about Jesus in school? Sure, why not? The name of Jesus Christ is not taboo. We live in a theophobic society, everyone is afraid that the religious community is out to get them, and that's not true at all. You don't have to believe what we say any more than we have to believe what you say. Should we be allowed to voice our varying beliefs? Absolutely. That's what makes us human.

I agree with the lawyer. I see NOTHING wrong with this. Next our government is going to try to tell us that See You At The Pole is no longer allowed. They are not allowed to inhibit our religious freedoms at all. The only time they would legally be justified in doing so is if someone's beliefs escalated into violence and physically caused harm to people. But simply saying "Jesus loves you" causes someone NO harm whatsoever. You disagree? Don't like it? Okay, then just don't take it to heart, I guess. You have just as much of a right to disbelieve as I do to believe. I will not infringe upon your right to say that you don't believe in God if you don't infringe upon my rights to say that I DO, and even to publicly declare it.

I believe that, unfortunately, the day will come when being a Christian will be illegal in America. It will be a sad day when that happens, but I believe that it will. Of course, many people will not give up their faith just because it's against the law to be a Christian. You can never take God away. You can put us in prison, but we'll still be singing hymns and songs of praise to God.

This song pretty much describes the present situation and my feelings toward it:
