... do they use the ancient traditional octagonal shaft cane from Hapkido, or the half round half square Hwrangdo cane, or the plain round Tangsoodo cane ???
by Takei-Shihan on March 20th, 2008
Plain round because the easier to find. But, if you want to use the others than that is ok too.

Long Shot, I noticed many of your answers mention ATA. Out of curiosity, do you work for ATA?
by iLove on March 25th, 2008
I don't work for them but I have a school with about 400 students that is with the ATA. I've got 36 years in MA but hooked up with ATA in 91. It boils down to it matters who the instructor is that would depend if I recommended them. Some are not so good and many are good.
by Long Shot on March 25th, 2008
That is so true, Long Shot. My daughter was in the ATA for over 10 years..she is now in the AMAI. :-)

Then you should have seen me ( dark suit bright Miami style shirt facial hair, real ugly) with Grand Master H. U. Lee as his security chief until his death. What part of the country are you from?
by Long Shot on March 26th, 2008
Southeast..Master Chic Mathis was our regional director when he was in Montgomery..then Master Dwayne Dendy.
by Jade on March 26th, 2008
I probably have seen you as we used to attend tournaments on a regular basis.
by Jade on March 26th, 2008
Both are good friends...
by Long Shot on March 26th, 2008
I assume you also know Master Boswell? My daughter was also in his region for a short time.
by Jade on March 26th, 2008
I'm sorry. I started with him(he was a 3rd but soom GN Lee took over my instruction.

My daughter is currently without an instructor. She and her instructor both tested for 4th degree last Sept. she got it, he didn't. She will have to travel to Houston, TX or Lake Charles, LA (Len Sonnier's school is there) to learn her material.
by Jade on March 27th, 2008
I have to go all the way from Montreal, Canada to Nag-Omuru, Japan for my hands on lessons ... my once per month video teleconference lessons are all I have for the time being ...
by Takei-Shihan on March 27th, 2008
She will have to fine tune her material via DVD, but she needs to get the basics in person and her instructor seems to be losing interest in TKD now and concentrating on Brazillian Jui Jitsu...which she also trains in. Looks like she is going to have to go after her training on her own, which is fine, but she has just turned 18 so has always had an instructor or mentor "looking after her". :-)
by Jade on March 27th, 2008
It sad that some instructors change with the wind. I know many that when a new art in brought in to the system "it's now the thing"
It's hard to teach what you don't know well.
by Long Shot on March 27th, 2008
yeah..it was the same with XMA. Which I love, btw..;-)
by Jade on March 27th, 2008
It was actually Kevin Mathis that started the XMA and they took what he and Battenberg started and added it. I put M. Mathis on the Worlds Demo team. Master Andy Silva and I started the first ATA Worlds Demo Team at GM Lees command.. Andy and GM Lee have passed away.
by Long Shot on March 27th, 2008
I thought Mike Chat started XMA and it was brought into the ATA. I have always enjoyed watching the World Demo Team, they are awesome. The Battenburgs, Olsens and Chic and Kevin Mathis started the AMAI..Kevin created the forms..I know GM passed away but I was unaware that Master Silva had.
by Jade on March 27th, 2008
It was Kevin and Battenberg's idea first than they got cut out.
by Long Shot on March 27th, 2008
Ah..I see.
