I am 21 and am transfering to another school-so i need an apartment, but i have two credit cards in collections and one paid off-how will i get an apartment with kinda bad credit? could i pay a few months in advance?

    First, you are not the only one with bad credit. The arrangement will depend on your landlord. Some places will let you put down a larger deposits. Others will not check your credit references. Another alternatives might be to look into renting a room in a house until your credit rating "heals", where often, references might not be checked as closely - as long as you have the deposit money.     You could opt to pay a few months in advance if you can afford it. That would show good faith. Bouncing back from bad credit is difficult to do, but it's possible.

    You could also seek a co-signer, someone with good credit who would co-sign the lease and be held financially responsible should you fail to meet your obligations. Using a co-signer really should be a last resort, as this arrangement has led to lawsuits and bad blood between friends and relatives.

    Keep paying down your debt, make payments on time and you should be fine in a few years.
