Help answer this question below.

Is it okay to take a Vicodin or Percocet before a ballet class or performance? I have terrible tendonitis and need relief!

    Tendonitis where? Leg or arm?

    If its the leg then NO do not take a vicodin and then go stressing the leg with dance. That's stupid and can lead to much worse damage than you already have.

    If its the arm and you are not dancing on your hands or catching 150+ pounds of ballet dancer, then yes - to a limit.

    Pain does serve a purpose, and that purpose is simply to make you stop doing what ever is causing pain.

    If it hurts to dance, stop dancing.

    In most cases of tendonitis, the doctor prescribes pain pills and tells you to take it easy, stop doing whatever caused the injury (most likely in your case ballet) and stay off the leg as much as possible.

    IF its just a mild case, if its not a mild case then splinting to surgery is done depending on how severe it is.

    I will assure you of this, if the tendonitis is say the knee and just mild and you take pills to stop the pain so you can dance you will end up with a split, or surgery.

    Surgery will end our ballet career.... forever.

    Did your doctor give it to you? What did he say about it? If you take pain medication you could dim the pain so much that you could injure yourself worse and not realize it.

    Sounds like you should talk to a physical therepist and figure out exactly what's going on with your tendonitis and see if it's a good idea to continue dancing.
