Why do so many lesbians dislike men while on the otherhand gays are often a woman's best friend?

I have never met a lesbian who really disliked men just because they were men..they simply did not prefer them as a partner.

I don't think that's a fair generalization. I have yet to meet a lesbian who completely dislikes men.

- Yes, but are you omniscient and all-present? If you are, it's a fair generalization. If you have no way of knowing that for sure as solid fact, then it's not fair. I digress.

- i think its because men always hit on lesbians,and see it as a turn on or a challenge,lesbians and lesbians cos thy dont wannab with me.and some men dont get that.

I have had mixed experiences, so I wouldnt say lots of lesbians dislike men. But I have known one or two who are definately extremely anti-men. It could be they have been hurt by a man in the past, and that could be a factor in them choosing to be lesbian. It could be they have a difficulty accessing the masculine part of themselves. In its extreme form a member of any sex not being able to access one side of themselves (as we have a masculine and feminine aspect) can become hostile to that sex.
In respect of the question, there could be many reasons why a lesbian may dislike a man, but certainly many seem to be okay toward men.

- Possibly so, but usually only in extreme cases and depending on the character and make up of the person

I think that's more of a stereotype than anything else. Although, to make a generalisation myself, maybe it's to do with men being less comfortable with lesbians than women are with gay men?

- confused! sorry, it's the weekend and there are too many perhaps and maybes in your comment! i think it's part of the stereotype about how all gay men are feminine shopaholics and all lesbians are butch, it seems a bit of a pathologisation for me, problem with stereotypes is they tend to hang around like a bad smell!
