In the NBA, is there such a thing as warding? And can an offensive player use his hand to keep opponents away.

    Goaltending is the only rule to govern this specifically. Goaltending is called when a shot is deflected on the downward arc, and the point value is immediately assessed. It's not a foul.

    Aggressive play, defensively and offensively is permitted, but when the action is too intrusive, it is at the discretion of the referees to call a foul on a player.
