First, you must purchase all games you intend to back up.
Second, modchips run between 15-90$ USD. This does not include installation.
If you do not know how to solder fine points then you should not be installing one yourself at all. If you are not confident enough in handling delicate electronics then you shouldn't even install a solderless option.
You can find "pre-modded" PS2s for $250+ dollars.

I want to play copied ps1 games on my ps2.. and i keep hearing people say i need a mod chip? wat the ? i have no idea wat their on about.. plus.. can play them on a ps1 anyway?
