You're reading Were you popular in high school? Was it important to you? If you were, did you enjoy it? (I know the last question may be slightly obvious)

I at times have trouble relating to people my own age too. Especially high school guys. They are very immature and I've been told I'm mature beyond my years. I'm also very studious, so that has affected my social life to the point where my stepfather questions the existence of one and has encouraged me to devote more time to social activities and less to schoolwork, ironically. Despite his opinions, I've remained dedicated to academics and love learning. I'm pretty much fed up with high school. This is mainly due to the fact that I just moved to a new city, and as I am on the outskirts of the city bordering the country, I am forced to attend a rural high school half an hour away as opposed to the urban one 7 minutes from my house. Unfortunately, my house is about 2 minutes from where the line was drawn determining where I would attend school. Regardless, (I know I got off track, haha) what I mean to say is that these juvenile inclinations and behaviors exhibited by my peers, as well as the collective social fascinations, activities, and pressures really bother me. I've even become aware of censoring and lowering my diction so that fellow students don't look at me like I'm speaking an entirely different language in class. I feel that they perceive me as a nerd. When I say all of this, I am working as hard as I possibly can to avoid sounding like I have some kind of a superiority complex or am stuck up and unwelcoming. I will say that sometimes, the allure of popularity does cross my mind, but then I realize that that high school popularity is limited to high school and does not endure the rest of one's life. No one will know that you were popular and well-known in high school. What everyone's wearing or the latest fad won't determine who accepts you or hires you in the long run. You decide your own fate, and succumbing to stupid acts with the intent of seeking attention and social conformity and excellence can greatly effect your future--even if it seems harmless at the time. I know I rambled right there, but I just needed to get that frustration off my chest. Thanks for answering my other question, too.

That happens when your maturity level is way beyond that of others who are in the same academic page with you. There's nothing wrong with that.In fact, it helps you in may ways. You can see many things that others can't.The main aim of being at school is to study.Other things come next, unless you want to make your mark in something else like sports, music and stuffs.I'm glad to stood affirm on your instincts, despite of your father's opinion.
I know things are tough when you change a place and move to a different environment and that too made to choose something, while a better option was always there.I mean to say the school at the rural area is pretty far as compared to that in Urban one.And when a lot of time is spent on traveling from school to home and back school.I understand how it's gonna affect your motivation to move forth.
Don't be bothered about the inclination of your peers and all the socializing stuffs. You have all your life to go for those.Right now as you have mentioned your main aim is studies, so focus on those.People would give you alien looks, but does that really matter? It never bothered me.People perceived me as a nerd as well when I was at school, but I cared the least, because I knew if I put in interest, I can do anything I like, but I just didn't need to follow the crowd, and being a nerd is not a bad thing at all.
I don't need to say anymore, as you have said it all in the concluding part of your comment

Yes, people have no idea what they are doing with their lives.I'm just taken by the way you think.Guys and girls in high school chase things just in order to seek attention. So, those who can't make their own identity and take refuge of a social group to get known, don't you think they are just insecure?I do.
They are just hiding their insecurities under their social status.
Yes, high school popularity means nothing, but being distinguished is always a bonus.Don't blame yourself. You didn't intent to gain popularity or attention, but if it comes along, just say 3 words, "Bring it on".
After a few years from now you'll be well placed in life. You'll buy any stuff you like and leave an independent life.I'm sure you'll also make right decision in choosing your partner, because people who think like you, seldom go wrong.Attention seekers always attract the wrong type. So, life will be great when you have a companion the way you have wished. That time you'll just look behind and laugh at the helplessness of your peers at present. So let them enjoy their social status and you move on towards your goal.
Yes, college will be a different ball game all together, but immature people are everywhere.Just stay affirm on your beliefs and your instincts and everything else would fall in line.
I do believe that you are pretty well focused and you are in the making of a great human being. In fact you already are.Stay blessed and my best wishes.
