Question

Help answer this question below.

Do you think Chris Rock is a bigot?

I feel that he makes racism much more acceptable for everyone.

For all the slant eyes, niggers, and spics... and crackers too.
He makes everyone cool, even the Jews =)

How about you?

Is he a liberator to you?

    Chris Rock is a comedian.

The fundamental basis of comedy is stereotyping.

The comic sets up a situation where we expect a certain outcome based on stereotypes. The comic then delivers an alternative outcome, and we find the juxtaposition between our expectations and the alternative reality funny.

Since the fundamental basis of bigotry is stereotyping, comedy and bigotry are curious cousins.

    Here's a perfect example:

Most of us have stereotypical expectations about rap music (i.e. that performers will be African-Americans and their subject material will be the gritty realities of urban life). When someone takes those stereotypes and flips them on their head (a "white" performer rapping about the concerns of upper-middle-class suburban white people as those they were equivalent to the gritty realities of urban life), the result is inherently funny (at least I think so...)

If he were white and spoke of blacks as he does of whites, he would not find work. I have heard his act a few times. I did not get offended personally, but did think the double standard is not fair.

Not at all. I don't think anyone who rips on their own race can really be called a bigot.
