Help answer this question below.

In China what would happen if you were caught using a website blocked by the Great Firewall?

I was planning on doing so but I can't find out what the punishments are.

    They actually try to NOT send anyone to prison because it just costs them money to feed you.
    They either send you to a strict hard labour camp so they can at least get some thing out of you, or they just shoot you and send the bill for the bullets to your family.

    As a foreigner, they probably wouldn't do anything to you for diplomatic reasons, although I'm not sure what the actual punishment is. I spent a year in China, knew many fellow foreigners, many of whom constantly used proxy servers to bypass that sort of thing, whether it be for porn or foreign news websites (yes, porn is illegal there, though in Nanjing I frequently saw porn magazines being sold by street vendors), and I never knew anyone to be caught. I cannnot in all conscience recommend that you do such a thing, though. I'm sure that the official punishment is strict. To be realistic, if you anger them enough in their country, they can do anything they want to you. I did hear of an allegedly mentally handicapped English person who was arrested and executed for being a participant in drug trafficking, though I can't verify the veracity of that.

    If you are ever arrested, remember, money may be your only way of getting out of a tough situation. Be careful.
