If your internet social site life is better than your real life social life does that mean you prefer fantasy to reality? Why?

You're shy Alec? Really? That surprises me because during the length of our AB friendship you have always impressed me with your knowledge, common sense, certitude and authority. I don't mean you're rigid or authoritatarian. You just strike me as a very confident person. Thank you for your answer m'dear and Happy New Year Sunday to you! :)

One of the reasons I like AB is because the format of answering a question gives you something to talk about. I can't do smalltalk, but I am (as you say) quite knowledgeable. I can handle Q and A. I can handle chairing a meeting, with an agenda to get through. I can handle a technical meeting where there is a problem to solve. What I can't handle is "Hello, I'm me. What do we talk about". I either over do it - talk on about some subject I know about, and become a bore, or underdo it - relapse into silence because I have nothing relevant to say. The net suits me because I can take time to compose a reply (I don't do real time chat) and because, especially on sites like AB) my dustbin of knowledge is often well received. One way to put it is that I am slightly autistic.

AB suits me too since I really am a loner and not a joiner. Having been an AB member for so long(since 2005..active since Feb 2007) surprises the he** outta me but I think it is because I come and go as I please and I don't have to answer to anyone. I love having friends all over the world. I just met one a couple of days ago who lives in south China Alec..I have some in Australia, even New Zealand, Japan,Korea, the UK (as you well know), Scotland, all over the US and Mexico and Canada and the list goes on and on. I talk to the future when I'm talking to an Aussie and also when I talk to you too. I was a painfully shy child and still have bits of that within me. But who I am here is who I am everywhere. I've always been able to express myself well and that is especially useful here. I love connecting with folks..clicking. I also enjoy disagreeing politely because how else do you learn new things from people or what they think? I suspect though that you are much more than you think you are and perhaps one day you will realize it and come out of your shell a bit more. Thank you for this honesty my friend. I appreciate it. Oh..I'm not good at small talk either. Most of it is bullsh** and I'm not so good at slinging it...my aim is lousy! :)
