PCSX2 is such an emulator (only for ps2). I don't remember where I downloaded it from, but I have files called pcsx2_07.zip and pcsx2SSE2-0.8.1.7z in my installers folder (I seem to have two versions of it). You might try googling those names. (edit: and leave off the file extensions when you search)

You can get a torrent file for pcsx2SSE2-0.8.1.7z here:
    http://www.mybittorrent.com/bittorrent/games/ps_2_emulator_working,83801.html

This isn't where I got it from, so I don't know if it works. The program is shareware, btw.

edit: I would wager the SSE2 in the file name refers to the processor instruction set called SSE2 (pentium 4, athlon 64, opteron), so that one is probably a lot better than the first.

edit: And I've used Bleem! (just google it) for ps1 games.

In extension to many answers above...

    Playstation:

Yes, there are many free emulators available that are legal provided you already own a playstation (needed to get the internal software inside the playstation known as the BIOS) and any games you want to play. Just do a search on google.

    Playstation 2:

As of this writing, there is a limited working emulator that can play many PS2 games but this is still in development. The reason behind this is the way the PS2 processes information is a bit wierd in computing terms and hard to translate across to a PC. Again, do a google search.

    NES/Super NES/Nintendo 64/Game Boy/Game Boy Advance...:

Plenty of emulators for these types of games and huge sites dedicated to running them.

    Gamecube:

    Sorry, no idea.

    X-Box:

Hard one to answer - not an expert on this but from what I can tell there's plenty of people trying to get games to work.

The main problem here is, as mentioned you need either special hardware to read XBox discs on computer, download the games off the net (illegal, yes) or copy them using a chipped X-Box console (illegal in many countries but ambiguous in others) using special software and a network cable.

The legality of all of the above does depend on where you live, the local laws and such. Take a look around... there are plenty of websites out there outlining everything you could possible ever want to know about this sort of stuff. Hope this helps :-)

You need a hardware upgrade to read the actual game disks. However, if you get someone else who has such hardware to burn a copy onto an ordinary CD, then you can do it with just software (google "emulators"). You can also download such copies (ROMs) off the internet.

Needless to say, all of these things are illegal in most countries, so I don't recommend doing them.

Yes there is a way. You can buy a special cd somewhere, not sure where though.
