Simple: reinstate the most fundamental principle of Common Law: "Where there is no victim/plaintiff, there is no crime!" Unless someone (1) can show how you have damaged them and (2) is willing to press charges, the State has no case against you and can't tell you do a damn thing.

Keep laws to an absolute minimum. The more people govern their own behaviour the less laws are needed.

there is no real justice in laws many times.
true freedom is freedom of mind. the more people live together on earth( 7 bill., now)
are not free to do as they wish, because everyone has to adjust to this.

There is no answer to it all. Some idiot is always going to screw it up for the rest. There will always be the people that take more than they should, destroy and kill and steal. Too many people make it worse. When I was young, I could go places and never see anyone. Now, where ever you go, people are every where. Everything is a mess, tore up, stolen and everything else, hence, more and more laws to try to control them. Lately, I have noticed that a lot of people look like Zombies. They have this blank look in their eyes, shuffling around Sears like they are in a daze. I went to get bandsaw blades today, and it was a bad experiance, to say the least. The sales lady wouldn't leave me alone, even though I told her what I was there after. She wouldn't even check me out untill I looked at all the Chinese crap they had for sale. Then, she tried to keep my change, all the while wheezing, snorting and snotting like she was dying. It's weird out the man. No wonder the cops would rather beat the hell out of them than mess with their stoopid asses. Society is breaking down. There isn't enough to go around. It's going to get really crazy soon. In one year, two at the most, crazy things are going down. Bet.

Abandon the current law system. There's eventually no balance.

People got to learn how to behave on behalf of everyone's interest (including their own) and internalize these "laws". They need to realize that they are the ones who have to decide for what is best in our society. We don't need guidance from any legislator.

For starters, though, legislation should be based on facts, statistics, scientific research and proper use of logic. It also has to be free of corruption. I assure you, we are far from it.

For example, alcohol, based on evidence is much more addictive AND harmful than cannabis yet the latter is still banned from most countries. Governments are enforcing heavier and heavier taxes on their citizens in order to "save" the country. This is absurd as if people have no money the market will eventually collapse. We need progress.

Law gives the illusion of freedom. You are free to roam in your own cage.

    No victim, no crime.

No harm and damage, no crime.

My gut response must be: The balance between law and freedom is to fairly and consistently enact and impliment laws which will protect the freedom of all. From my perspective, within and without that foundational concept are innumerable over-tensioned cans of worms! To clarify, I'm not implying the arbitrary and relative and irreparable corruption of absolute reconciled law and freedom - I'm saying it, flat out!

Plenty of freedom for me, but enough laws to keep other people from doing things I don't like.
