As of the census of 2000, there were 16,899 people, 5,984 households, and 4,847 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 84.2/km sq (218.1/mi sq). There were 6,374 housing units at an average density of 31.8/km sq (82.3/mi sq). The racial makeup of the CDP was 88.45% White, 0.83% African American, 0.99% Native American, 1.07% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 6.01% from Race (United States Census)other races, and 2.57% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 18.30% of the population.
There were 5,984 households out of which 42.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.6% were Marriagemarried couples living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.0% were non-families. 14.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.10.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 29.9% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 32.3% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 8.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 100.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.1 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $48,121, and the median income for a family was $51,425. Males had a median income of $37,161 versus $26,310 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $20,645. About 3.0% of families and 5.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.5% of those under age 18 and 4.7% of those age 65 or over.
