    I dunno.

Kids need not only bread & water and a few rags to cover the smelly bits.

    They need:
    decent food
    medical care
clothes good enough to not get beat on in school
    a place to live
    power, internet, water, etc
    phone, computer access, etc
    clubs, sports, after school activities
music, ballet or other art classes
    movie tickets
    allowance
    ...
    ...
    ...

    That's a short list.

As half the creator of a kid, a given parent is responsible for half the cost of raising the kid - not for some hypothetical minimum subsistence level.

Now - I don't think a kid needs unlimited minutes & data, the latest iPhone, Nikes etc... But they do need a decent level of such as defined by the community they live in and their parents' income.

You can't send a kid to a private school with a 7 yr old Nokia, used clothes etc. S/he'll got tormented to death.

This depends on a variety of things which are outlined for your particular state in the United States. (Or whatever other country you may be a citizen of.)

Some factors may include the income of the non-custodial parent, the income of the custodial parent, availability of medical coverage/insurance for the child, other factors which may be used to offset child support in one way or another, such as how property is divided up between divorcing couples, and so forth.

Consult an attorney in your area for additional information on this.

That depends on about 50 things. Research child support guidelines for your state.

Cost of shelter, clothes, food, transportation needs, education costs. etc. Itemize it out and you wil see. Ask the judge for an itemized expense report detailing teh amounts and see what he says q:)

I thought child support is based on the person's income?

If that's the percentage the courts use to figure out what's fair .. then it's not too much.

People forget that child support is to help give their child the best life possible ... who doesn't want that for their child?
