• They cast a cold and ominous shadow over blocks to the North, especially. Often a dreadful wind whipped the sidewalks at their corners. We called them "David" and "Nelson" named after the Rockefeller brothers: David Rockefeller, the chairman of Chase Manhattan Bank and the then-governor of New York, Nelson Rockefeller who assigned enormous amounts of public money for their construction.

• They were majestic from Brooklyn Heights at sunset during the summer, the setting sun splashing between them. But architecturally, they were more like out-of-proportion tomb stones, without ornament or architectural significance. (Just my "belly button" opinion from someone who saw them nearly every day from the time they were tall enough to be seen from my apartment.)

• Sorry, but I have to point this out. I see this error more and more and it needs to be corrected. That should be either "should've" or "should have" not "should of".
  
  Please don't take this personally. I know that my writing skills are not exactly the best. However, this is a pretty obvious error in the use of the English language that more and more people are making and I just had to comment on it.

• 'Pretty' is an informal qualifier meaning 'fairly', so the phrase is quite correct. If you are not familiar with English it is a mistake to try to make a correction, particularly to someone else's correction.

  I said " the should of course not have been taken....."
  I should have said " of course they should not have..." or at least put a coma behind should and course.
  I did not say "should of", "but should , of course, not have been taken."
  all I did is forget the coma. I used the correct tense.

• Glenn, if you read my (sh..) you will discover I make millions of mistakes daily. I assume they are mostly typos. some grammar mistakes, too.
  I am ALWAYS grateful when people point them out. I am always learning, and sometimes such mistakes are outright hilarious.
  I said :" I snow" instead of " Is not", and " sex" when I wanted to say six" and many more silly mistakes.

• Like most monuments to money, they're finding money to build another monument to money - public tax dollars, dollars for 5 million sq. ft. of new office space in a new tower ("World Trade 02") financed through the Port Authority.
