  • In the mid 1980's there were many known incidents where a disgruntled employee would come to his office and shoot everyone in sight as a retaliation for being fired or some other adverse situation on the job. Situations like this were most notable at the post office where a postal worker killed his coworkers and then killed himself. Over the years as this would happen elsewhere, the media would still magnify every such situation that happened at a post office.
  • "The term derives from a series of incidents from 1983 onward in which United States Postal Service (USPS) workers shot and killed managers, fellow workers, and members of the police or general public. Between 1986 and 1997, more than 40 people were killed in at least 20 incidents of workplace rage". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Going_postal
  • It's pretty unfair to pin violence at work all on mail workers.
  • I was working for the Post Office when that term was becoming popular. Had to listen to all the numbskulls at their mailboxes saying "You aren't going to 'go postal' on me are you?". Very obnoxious, made me want to just f***ing KILL someone!
  • I applied for a job at the post office. About 240 people went to the Navy Reserve building where we took a long test. Only 5 of the bunch qualified for an interview. I was one of them. When we went to the post office, we had to bring a birth certificate, i brought a copy of mine. The personnel manager reemed my ass out for bringing a copy, saying how illegal it was. I told her that i didn't want to take a chance of my real one dissappearing. Then when we walked through where we'd be working, there was a group of guys fixing a machine. They were making smart remarks about us. The guy taking us around had us stop at these guys and said that these guys will be working for you, and thay looked at each other in disgust. I just thought to myself right then, how long will it take for me to go postal on these people. I never did go back after the interview. Postal employees are pricks!
