Why would people sell unsearched diamonds or rubies on eBay? Why would they sell these for cheap unless they are of no value?

    I wouldn't necessarily say they are of no value. When they are unsearched, it means that they are taken out of the mine in rough, dirty condition and given a once over. Most of the time, you can spot a valuable gem quick, espacialy if you work with them all the time and know what you are looking for. What's left is smaller, usually inferior quality gems. So the companies sell them as such, for people who want to take the time to clean them, and maybe work with them for jewlery making or crafting purposes. But there also is a possibility that a valuable gem slipped by, so there is a small chance of getting a valuable gem for a few dollars.

    So, to answer the question, they sell them for people who are intersted in that sort of thing and have the time and inclination to clean them and work with them. For the most part, they are of little value, but who knows what can be found by going through the gems?
