What happens to the personal possessions of a suicide victim if they have no living relatives?

    After all debts are settled often the possessions would be awarded to the state in most cases where the family cant lay legitimate claim.

    A good pal of mine from North Fork CA died a couple of years ago, and after making enquiries to find any relations, the State of California got the lot.

    probate all assets
    the State has a will for you if you do not have one.

    goes to her estate/will and then
    taxes, probate "court attorneys" and then goes to any heirs.
    if none your state laws dictates.

    if you want something you will need to contact the court who is handling the ESTATE.

    In the US, I think if there are no living relatives, a deceased person's estate becomes a state asset after all debts have been paid.
