Mitsubishi dropped the Mirage 4-door sedan line in favor of the newly released Lancer sedans, these only come in the 4-door variety. Its somewhat lesser sibling Mirage is still being sold as a 2003 model year model as a coupe only, giving consumers still a choice if they want the 2-door subcompact version.

So why is the name Lancer and not Mirage? Well the rights to the "Lancer" name ran out last year, so Mitsubishi claimed it. The car was known as the Lancer overseas, and in some European countries, the Carisma. Known for its World Rally successes, the rally version of the Lancer is truly a supercar in its own right.
