When you have a linear graph with a positive slope the x and y variables are said to be directly proportional, what If you have a linear graph with a negative slope? Is it inversely proportional?

    It's still direct proportion, so long as it is linear and passes through the origin. See http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Proportional.html for a definition.

    Correct, that would be inversely proportional. That is, y is decreasing as x is increasing, and vice versa.

    blahbleh is correct. I was mistaking a casual usage in an applied setting for the real definition--been out of school too long. I thought this answer had been removed, but it's just that the question got repeated.

    As I have learned, direct proportionality is the term for negative as well as positive llinear slopes.
