Question

Help answer this question below.

My car growls loudly while braking. I've had the brakes checked and they otherwise seem okay. When accelerating, the brakes make a spinning, ticking sound for a few seconds. What could be wrong?

My gut instinct says it's the torque converter (assuming it's an automatic). At a stop, the engine is spinning but the wheels aren't, and that puts strain on the T/C. Same deal when accelerating, only (usually) less so.
