Why is it that when we go to pick up a bag or box that we think is full, and it's empty, does it feel weird? Is there something that happens in our brain that makes us feel this sensation?

    I suppose because of our thoughts, we have told the brain to prepare for something heavy and to ready the muscles, tendon and whatever else is necessary to pick up something heavy. So when it ends up being light, we are sort of "all dressed up and nowhere to go".
