Is there any way to receive cable broadcast via cable modem on the computer, without buying a video capture card?

    It is possible (although possibly illegal) to capture video that is streaming over the Internet. It is also possible to download TV shows or movies (in pretty much any format you can imagine...mp4, avi, mpg, etc, using bittorrent or other download applications...although this is definitely illegal unless the copyright holder has allowed it to be posted for download. If you have TIVO Series 2 or better, you can transfer recorded programs to your computer. It is possible, although probably illegal, to remove their encryption...then make a backup of the video or whatever. There are also video-sharing sites that stream TV shows using Flash...it is possible to save those files...but you guessed it, it's probably illegal. Basically, most of the options here are not legal or fall in a gray area. So if you are worried about downloading illegal content (which you probably should be), then the best thing to do is get a TIVO or a capture card for your computer...pick one that includes good DVR software (do your research)...and pick a capture card that is compatible with your graphics card. I have an ATI TV/capture card...and it is NOT compatible with my NVidia graphics card, which sucks. But you can probably get a decent TV/capture card and good DVR software for $100 or less. Good luck! And don't upload your captured video to the Internet...they can catch that too and that is a more serious offense.
