The best teacher I ever had was my Physics professor (last year, two semesters)...

He really knew his material, and while he moved quickly through the lecture, he would always stop and answer questions as needed.

He was very funny (which is always nice for the enjoyment of class), but he was also adept at using such humor to defuse tension.

He also was very good at noticing when we needed a break from intense material, and would take a few minutes talking about random subjects until everyone's brain could catch up.

He faithfully came to class every night. Since I drove 50 miles round trip for this class, twice a week, I really appreciated that. In two semesters of having this guy, he only cancelled once, and he let us know the night before.

He consistently answered his e-mails, and in a timely fashion, which really helped if you had a question on the homework, or a lab you were typing up.

He never made anyone feel like they couldn't succeed in the course. This was very important to me, as someone who hadn't taken Calculus in 20 years and was a bit rusty. I was in a class with all engineering majors (and the only female), and there were times that I felt I had to prove myself and my capabilities. This feeling came from classmates (sometimes), and myself (I'm my own worse enemy), but it NEVER came from him. If it had, I might have given up.

He genuinely looked at the effort that one was making in the class and took that into consideration for final grades. I'm not saying that I was failing, and received an A (that would have been ridiculous), but I know he spotted me a few percentage points in the end, and I think it was because he knew how hard I was trying. That A meant a lot to me, especially after struggling and fighting to do well, but I earned it.

    I could go on...

My favorite teacher would be my English teacher, because.
    1. With our essays and work, she goes through and writes comments on parts on where you need to improve.
    2. she's nice and funny (Supports my favourite team) but when needed, she can be very assertive.
    3. She uses experience, things that have happened to her, and allows us to share ours as well.
    4. She teaches you more then you realise. You can think you spent the whole period talking, but you actually learnt a lot.
    5. She is very persuasive. She has convinced her husband that she needs all the apple products, and she convinced our class to actually read more books ( She didnthave to convince me).

Mrs. Webster of Chelsea Elementary School in St. Paul Minnesota.
She was the most remarkable teacher I ever had.
And sadly because she was my kindergarten teacher and third grade teacher as well, I did not yet appreciate what she was at the time.
But she had this ability to disarm children, to make them feel like school wasn't a punishment.
To animate reading into practically a movie type intensity.
She was forgiving to a fault and always with praise to spare.
I can't just list 5 attributes, because her being and essence could not be easily captured in 5 specific ways.
She was a teacher you hear about but perhaps never actually see.
One who embodies the joy of learning onto her pupils.
I would hope we all have one teacher kind of like her, just to make education fun and worth remembering.
The rest of my teachers were pricks

I don't think I've had a best teacher... I've had best teachers in a subject, but not in general.
