Help answer this question below.

I am on a 7 day antibiotic,if I take it for only 6 days, will my infection go away?

    NO, you need to take the antibiotic for the full seven days, even if you're feeling better.

    You should take the antibiotics exactly as prescribed and finish the complete course. Antibiotics begin working in your body soon after starting a new course, if you stop the treatment before your prescribed medication is scheduled to finish you could actually be doing more harm than if you had never even begun taking the antibiotic at all.

    No. The antibodies must build up in your system in order to fight the infection. In fact, taking it only 6 days would be worse because your body will build up a natural defense according to how much of the antibiotic you take. Take the wrong amount and your body's defenses will be built up improperly.

    Why would yo only take it for six days?? you only have one day left - finish it. Only the symptoms have gone away - you have to take it the full time your doctor tells you too, or you risk getting sick.

    Usually the infection will go away long before then but if you don't take the antibiotics in the time they tell you to your body could become immune to that particular antibiotic. This is the way my doctor described it to me when I had a kidney infection

    no, but your vision and ability to control bodily functions will if you don't follow your doctors instructions
    until you have 4 years of medical school and time interning under your belt you should do what the guy who get's paid the big bucks says

    You really need to take the full course of antibiotics, in order for it to have the best chance of working. I'm always having to take antibiotics for one thing or another, and I always find that if I skip a day or forget to finish, it may or may not go away, but if it does, it comes back fighting. It could be my immune system being weaker than most people's immune systems, but I never know for certain...

    You probably will be fine taking 6 days out of 7 . I've done that occasionally. But it's also possible that if you don't take them all the infection may not clear up completely and come back even stronger and resistant to what you were taking.

    It might do, but if you do cut the treatment short, you will be helping the micro-organisms to adapt and become stronger. This is why antibiotics no longer work properly. Cutting treatment short is utterly irresponsible.
