The profile of a girl I met online says she's 18, and I want to meet her. But what if she's younger? If I meet her can I get arrested, even though her profile said she was 18?

Meet her at a club. At least where I am from, they check IDs and you can't even get in if you are under 18. Make sure the club checks IDs and that they specifically checked hers. While IDs can be faked, it's at least one more step of security. And do make sure you get to know her a bit before sleeping with her.

Maybe on the second date you can visit her at her place. If she is really like 13 she's going to have a hard time hiding the fact that she's living with her parents or other legal guardians. Of course, she could have you pick her up at a friend's house, but if you get several visits in and see that yes, the stuff around the house or apartment is in indeed hers, it's almost guaranteed that she's of age.

When in doubt...punt. I would make a copy of her profile to show the authorities should it come to that. At sixteen, I looked like 22 and even had a job that you needed to be 21 for. So I lied. I did get a good education learning dance steps which I later taught to others in the old Author Murry Dance studios, but, in the long run they found out and I was out of a job. The point is, with makeup and a bit of dress up, anyone can pass for older. For your own sake I would make sure of her age by checking her ID and I would not have a problem asking for it. After all, if you start out being sneaky you end up being sneaky. Its your life she is messin with so it should be perfectly all right asking for proof and saying that she has such a youthful face that you need to see proof with your own eyes. If she has lied about her age it is better to find out before you get into trouble.
Once you are designated as a sex ofender you will always be designated a sex offender, for the rest of your life. You will be the first one they come to when a sex crime has happened. I would err on the side of caution and find out right off the bat. If she is offended by this then she had something to hide and that is not the way to start a relationship.

    Good luck with life's adventures.

PS> I don't think they can arrest you for just meeting her. Having sex is a different matter. Just make sure it isn't you pursuing a girl you know to be younger than legal age.

Define meet. Obviously Statutory Rape will be a problem, but SEEING her and going out on a date is hardly a problem.

Yes. That's why I would hate to be a sales rep in a store in case I meet someone under 18 and then get arrested for meeting them.

I would think if you were with her and she was thirteen or such, the arresting officers would look at what is the fact here, and that she is underage and the law is broken and you get arrested. Later on you can state your case about she lying and all that and get judged (remember going to court is always a "craps shoot"). At the best you get your charges dropped but still you spent time getting arrested and some time in jail which nobody likes to spend time doing that. If it gets complicated and she does not admit to lying, then all that remains is one truth, she is underage and you were with her. Take smaller steps till you are reasonably sure about the age.

Tell her to bring ID and meet in a public place. Could you bring someone with you as well just to cover your butt?

Don't meet her. There was a story recently about a 14 year old girl (who looked older). She lied about her age on an online dating site, man came and had sex with her. Months later the parents find out, he gets arrested, and gets prosecuted for it. The "She said she was eighteen" excuse didn't work.

You better be sure she is 18 and if you do meet her, make sure it is in a public place. Remember the Duke Lacrosse players?

I didn't think it works like that. If you're talking to a younger person online and saying you're the same age, then you'd probably be arrested for sure.

First how old are you?You cant get arrested unless you have sex with her,I would let her know your concerns, and try to get the truth out of her,I personally would move on..and not pursue her.Since its questionable

This is a problem. There are young girls who pretend to be older. Why meet her if you are in doubt? You may want to, but you don't have to.
