What did Jesus mean when He said the eye is the lamp of the body (Matthew 6:22)?

    “The lamp of the body is the eye. If, then, your eye is simple, your whole body will be bright; but if your eye is wicked [“envious,” footnote], your whole body will be dark.” (Matthew 6:22, 23) A “simple” eye is an eye that is in focus spiritually, an eye that is fixed on God’s Kingdom. On the other hand, a “wicked” eye or an “envious” one is shortsighted, able to focus only on immediate fleshly desires.

    Jesus was all about Spirituality, so simply put, the more you agree with the material world (materialism) the more blinded you become to your own native spiritual nature...

    Luke 17:21Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. (our own native spiritual nature, separate and different from the physical world of bodies )

    John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh;(mortal, physical human body) and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."(you as a non-physical, immortal, Spiritual Being).

    I John 4:4Greater is He that is in you, (non-physical, immortal, spiritual being) than he that is in the world (physical world, including bodies)

    he means that what we focus our vision on is what we tend to prioritize ,even in a spiritual sense. we learn by what we see,we visualize what we want,we look for opportunities,and we see fit to handle things in our lives. all these expressions convey what he is teaching.
