    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

About 13,500 ships pass through the Panama Canal every year, which is nearly 40 each day. The canal connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, making it unnecessary for most ships to sail around the tip of Argentina. Construction of the canal lasted from 1880 to 1914.
