What is the average life cycle of a piece of chewing gum?

    The flavor lasts as long as what ever sweetener remains in the gum.

    Heston Blumenthal did an interesting experiment to show this. He had people sip from two tubes simultaneously. One had a banana flavoring and the other sugar water. After a while of this when the sugar water was turned off but the banana flavor remained on people stopped tasting the banana. Curiously, when they turned the banana flavoring off but left the sugar water on people still tasted banana.

    If you leave it sitting in your mouth after a few minutes (without chewing) it will start to break up and become soft (doesnt taste good though)

    I would surmise approximately 3 days. By then, the working enzymes in our mouth would break the gun down to nothing.
