  • Of course, your PC is in very little danger of a direct lightning strike. It's the indirect ones that will kill it. I'll refer you to my answer to the next question. It might actually have been more appropriate here, but I saw the other one first.
  • Look for a powerstrip that promises to protect against "spikes," not just surges. Lightning surging through your house's wiring moves way too fast for a normal surge suppressor to shut off in time. These are not cheap, but if you are concerned about your electronics, it could be well worth the extra cash.
