This is most likely a problem within the DVD player, which would need to be checked by a repair technician.

You should start, however, by giving the laser lens in the DVD player a thorough cleaning to ensure that the problem is not caused by a dirty lens. You should use a commercial wet-brush cleaning disk for this task, such as the Milty LC2 (http://www.milty.co.uk/i96c166/Media_Care/LC2_CD/DVD_Lens_Cleaner.htm). These or similar products are available from audio/video retailers.

You may need to run the cleaning cycle more than once if the lens is very dirty. It is a good idea to clean the lens in your optical players on a regular basis, particularly if your home environment includes smokers, pets, and open windows (blowing dust and dirt).
