    The two previous answers indicate what can only be described as a "perfect co-incidence", that the Earth has been parked / parked itself in an orbit around the Sun with an aproximate diameter of 1,000 light seconds across and correspondingly with an approximate radius of 500 light seconds from the Sun! Do we detect the 'Creator's' hand in any of this or is it just a reflection of the one universal constant 'c' !? Anyone else intrigued by this!?

    Whilst the question is unclear (no surprise as it's from AB staff!) it is assumed that "to cross earth's orbit" means from one side of the orbit to the other and not the distance from the sun to the orbital path. With that assumption, the radius of earth's orbit is ~93 million miles, so the diameter of the orbit is ~186 million miles. Light travels at ~186,000 miles per second so the time light takes to cross earth's orbit is 186000000/186000 = 1000 seconds or about 16 mins 40 secs.

    The diameter of Earth's orbit is elliptical rather than round but it is approximately double the earth's distance from the sun (93 million miles on average) or about 186 million miles. Light travels at 186,000 miles per second, taking approximately 16.33 minutes to traverse that distance.
