    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

The earliest porcelain dolls were created in France, Denmark and Germany in the early 19th Century. Porcelain is a generic term to describe dolls made of china, which is glazed, or bisque, which is unglazed. Dolls made of bisque are thought to contain more lifelike skin tones than those made of china.

They were made first in germany somewhere between 1840 and 1850... They were called china dolls because they were dolls made out of china(porcelain) :P First they were just like statues of humans, but soon they got made as dolls for little girls. (Little girls have had dolls for as long as i know) The reason is unknown :P
