  • I so feel for you. First of all, YOU HAVE TO TRUELY WANT TO QUIT. Second, Give yourself to God, ask Him to take your pain and PRAY PRAY PRAY! I can promise you that will help wonders. Third, Change your routines, meet new people, get out of the house, AND PUSH YOURSELF HARD to keep busy. Spend time with your family if you can. I have been through oxycontin withdrawls twice. both times very high doses. I was doing them everyday, for a year the 1st time. The second time 8 months I started taking them the 2nd time I thought, I can stop and it wont be as hard to stop. I was wrong, It sucked. But I got through those times and I am happier then I have ever been. Sure they will cross your mind alot in the begining, but after time, it wont be the 1st thought in your head when you wake up. YOU CAN DO IT BUT YOU HAVE TO TRUELY HAVE TO WANT TO DO IT! It will make you a stronger person all around, more then you can imagine. JUST DO IT, cold turkey, or wean very very fast. Please, really read this, and when you are ready, take my advise. YOU CAN DO IT!
  • If you are on a high dose ( I believe 80mg.a day for a Herion addict) please seek inpatient programs because you can die from methadone withdrawl. I was prescibed methadone for pain, so I usually took 20mg. a day and thats hard enough to get off of it. I did go impatient for 9 days and I haven't taken any since 062105. I'm not going to lie to you, it is very tough but I want to be clean! So please talk to your Doctor or call Narcotics anonymous in your area. Good Luck
  • well you won,t die.. although you wish you were dead it,s very hard to do.it takes longer when your on meth for opiates.you have to detox in small mg. i have been on 210 mgs& on the program for almost 5 years. it saved my life..
  • he is right i was on oxys and vics very heavy heavy for a lot of years the only thing that saved me was methadone and thanking god methadone is a med some of us need the same way we need other meds..
  • You can not die from Opiod withdrawl; proven fact. You just wish you would die. You can die from Methadone overdose which is quite easy if you take enough. Methadone is an extremely effective drug at helping people get off narcotic painkillers and heroin. If you take it in theraputic doses and tapering it according to your doctor, there shouldn't be hardly ANY withdrawl and if there is it is extremely mild. I know first hand. After breaking my back and being on oxycotin and demerol for 2 years my doctor put me on methadone to kind-of counter act the other pain killers. Methadone is a very long lasting pain medication. I believe one should last about 12 hours. I didn't need to take that many and i kinda just stopped taking it on my own. Spent a day kinda sweaty and with some slight chills but i was fine the next day. If you are absuing methadone, you really may want to seek inpatient treatment. I do know the abuse of methadone will lead to very very bad withdrawls and eventually death from overdose. Typically it takes 48 hours for any narcotic to leave your system. It is very technical because basically the synthetic opiod replaces the natural chemical used in the brain to control pain. One thing to help kick start the reproduction of the chemical (and I can't remember what it is called) is to exercise. If you truely want to get off any narcotic painkillers, then taking methadone correctly and not abusing it is probably the most effective way next to an impatient treatment that costs about $10K - $30K.
  • There are no easy ways to get off any addictive drugs but Methadone is one of the easiest on you physically. And to Babykittie00, yes you can die from withdrawals of Oxycontin.
  • My sister was put on Methadone after being addicted to an assortment of other pains meds. While her 'highs' seemed a bit more regulated, the addiction to methadone was all the same. She lost her marriage and almost her kids due to it. After being on Methadone for aproximately four years, she finally got off November 26, 2006 and has been clean since. The only way she was successful this time (after several failed attempts) she had to be isolated from the rest of the world for several days wth someone to look after her to make sure she consumed plenty of fluids and regular sleeping pills so she could sleep through the worst of it. It's not easy but it can be done.
  • Do not stay on methadone for more than 2 months. Get a good counselor to help with the mental part of your addiction. what you have to remember is that in most states all methadone clinics are owned by private business owners so they want to keep you there as long as possible. I NEVER went any higher than 50 mgs and at the 2 month mark INSISTED that i start being weaned 5 mgs every 10 days until i was at 5 then I went to 2.5 mgs then off. All in all it was not too bad.
  • There is a drug Called Ibogaine that comes from a plant which grows in south africa. There is a tribe there that uses it for spiritual rituals (coming of age type thing) It is classified a hallucinogenic. It pretty much is a 3 day acid trip, and at the same time it "resets" all your addiction/pain receptors to new. So after the 3 day trip you are opioid free. It is still illegal in the US though there is clinics in europe and the islands just off the US coast but they are really expensive, $3000-$10000 for a stay. You can also order it off the internet and sometimes find it on the street. But do some research on it and look for yourself.
  • ummm yeah there is 100 percent no way in hell an easy way to get off methadone.this drug is the devil man.ive been on it a year peaking as high as 120 mgs and now after a few months im down to 65 mgs.unless you are getting your dose free everyday you are at a private owned methadone business.shortly that means they want you there as long as possible (years) and they want you on a high enough dose so you dont feel any opiate except theirs to get you well.i asked my clinic the other day if they could help me go to a hospital to get off the 65mgs over a few weeks and they had no idea.they told me i would have to have 11 thousand to do that somewhere and i have to keep getting my 13 bucks a day for them and come down 5 mgs every ten days.yeah that means id be there another and thats about another 4 months.america has such a great healthcare system.good luck this shit will be on your back for years.its on mine
  • Wish there was! My beloved ex just died from a methadone od. He originally was addicted to herion, then through the use a methadone he was able to quit. After that he was clean for two years. I don't know what happened. I don't know why he went back. It breaks my heart. I really felt like he was going to be a success story.
  • I've been on Methadone now for a few months, I was a heroin addict for almost 13years. I am only 25 and I found that methadone was the only way to get clean. I have been on methadone before and I was at 130ml when I got cut off. I went into a detox center that gave you medication to help like phenobarbital and another med I can't remember what it is called, And I was in there for almost a month, the withdrawal lasted for a long time. But I still decided to go back on it and try it again. I am very serious about quitting and getting off this methadone. This time around I will go no higher on it than 85ml, and when I am ready to taper off I will make sure I do it slow, Just as long as I eventually get off it I don't care how long it will take. So just take your time to withdrawal and don't try to do it as fast as you can. I won't be easy but nothing is.
  • Very, very, gradual withdrawal is the least painless way although it takes a long time. Don't set yourself targets, just reduce by a small amount when you feel the time is right. When you get down to about 30mls a day, you can replace the methadone with a drug called 'Subutex' which is buprenorphine, with is taken in the form of a tablet which dissloves under your tongue (sublingual) This is even easier to withdraw from, if you take it slowly. The changeover is nowhere near like withdrawing from heroin, or methadone - it's easy. You will need to see a drug counsellor, I don't know if you are already seeing one - different substance misuse clinics do things in different ways, but you can ask about buprenorphine. If you want any more info I can give you some website links.
  • Honestly, if you want to get off methadone, it is almost better to go back to doing heroin for a couple weeks, and then just go through the withdrawal of heroin. Methadone withdrawal is so much worse and it lasts so much longer. By going back to heroin for a couple to few weeks, you can get the methadone out of your system, and go through a less severe and MUCH shorter withdrawal. Withdrawal from methadone peaks at around days 7-10, and can be pretty bad for up to a month, with depression and other minor side effects lasting up to a year. Heroin withdrawal peaks at around days 2-4 and lasts about a week. Heroin withdrawal is much much MUCH easier to get through - and although it sounds like a stupid thing to do...it would make withdrawal much easier and shorter.
  • the only thing you can do is detox slowly maybe 1mg weekly until done with the program. You will need a good counselor, a good support system and the willingness to want to get off. I see people daily who have been on the program for up to 15 years and they are scared to get off. Everyday they say "i wanna get off this stuff" but never request to taper off slowly. You must start somewhere and everyday you put off decreasing your dose is a day longer you stay on methadone. Fear and apprehension will keep you on methadone forever. I see people taking 2mg daily and are doing well but scared to drop to 1mg then 0. methadone maintenance programs are great for those serious about cleaning up. be a methadone success story start detoxing, dont be a 20 year daily dose veteran.
  • Substitute heroin....
  • I have been on the methadone for just over a year now, after 2 yrs on heroin. For the first few months of being on it, i was still using, and also on 70ml a day. Since Oct 08, i have been coming down 3ml at a time, when i feel i am not needing after 24 hrs, i come down another 3ml, i am now at 11ml, (the hard work started when i got to 22mlish)and am ok on that so am just away to go into single figures, i am hoping to be off it by summer. I know their is no way i could come straight off it. I tried that when i was at 22ml and the stomach cramps were unbelievable, so had to take my daily dose. The way to do it, is by being strict with yourself(never take more one day than you have the day before), and the biggest thing is, you have to be ready. Although i know i am not home & dry, i know it is in sight. I also moved away from my heroin surroundings, and also changed my phone number and deleted all heroine friends(as they aint real friends when you are trying to get clean)from my numbers. Right now, i would say it can be done, but mibbe in a year i will feel different, i know one thing, am gonna find out. As for the god answer above, Geez peace.
  • There is no easy way. You have to honeslty want to quit. Though a good support system, a good counselor and a good doctor you can do it. I would suggest a blind detox. Discuss it with your doctor/counselor first and then go on the detox. If you are unaware how much/if your dose has changed your mind will be less likely to acknowledge some of the symptoms. I'm am not implying the detox will be easy at all but I have heard the blind detox really helps. The sooner you do it the better - the longer you stay on methadone the harder it will be to get off it. Good luck.
  • YES THERE IS>>but if you have financial issues and no health insurance it may prove difficult. Research these two medications-Suboxone.and newly available as an oral med buprenorphine. Suboxone contains buprenorphine and naltrexone so you cannot inject it or you will go into withdrawal-for whatever reason when its taken orally it doesnt have that same effect-however you have to taper down to 30mg of methadone before any Dr. will let you switch since it would cause withdrawal. This brings me to buprenorphine on its own-it was initially an IV injection med used for detox from heroin but i was told it is now available as an oral medication for people on methadone to safely and humanely come off of opiates supposedly regardless of what dose of methadone someone is on..buprenorphine is much easier to detox from and has much fewer side effects.
  • Yes! I did it. It took about 2 years got down to 25mlg switched to soboxone (which is nothing like metadone) & should be off that by Christmas. Dont give up.
