Why are Wiccans being so offended?

Ever since I entered three Wiccan websites just to study what they believe, they went crazy! They won't even talk about spells, only about how depressed they are and how they act like they know everything better than anyone else, they've been offended because I spoke about Jesus and if they believed in him and about such, they said that faeries hate the Cross and hate Christians and such BS, Why are these people like this? I'm starting to hate them. Also what's with them getting angry when you be healthy and they're not, aren't Wiccans meant to be healthy but not obese?! A woman was once also so jealous that I complimented a woman that she was nice, and I was suspended apparently for saying "Merlin was born in Wales" he was born there, according to legends. Why? Also 80% of the Wiccans there are children!

    Asker's Pick

Selected by the asker, King Arthur Pendragon. (What's this?)

i don't think you were talking to real witches.

however i must say fairies [angels] dislike anything negative. and when so many people put the idea of death and the cross together then you have a lot of negative energy there. so this might be true. that fairies hate the cross.

wiccans like christians are suppost to follow certain rules. that's not to say they aren't being broken. and no we don't look down on each other for being different. because we witches believe we will be punish. however i myself am eclectic. and even i find that the laws of energy catch up with you eventually.

merlin isn't real. that is offensive.
    it's a fairy tale.
    not real.
that would tick me off. people who talk about witchcraft should know as much as possible before you talk about it. we consider not knowing as a childish and faithless way to live if you don't study up on your religion. however not everyone believes this.

if you had quite a bit of knowledge on your back then i'd give you credit for saying what you wanted.

and witches don't like to preach. it's against their belief system. it's like asking them to break an oath they took. if you'd like to know more about them i could tell you about them. but it's normally best to look things up on your own so you never feel like you're going to dissappoint anyone in the end if you give up on being a witch ... or just so they don't feel they were being used. it's a self defense technique to do things on your own and not get the wrong ideas of witches. because the wrong idea would be the one against you. if you believe certain things then it's there. but if you don't then it shouldn't make you angry others don't see it that way.

see wiccans aren't allowed to judge. anything. "an ye harm none" if you judge then you're breaking the creed and you're punished for it.

i myself don't follow rules. and do what i please.
but i don't think you were talking to real witches.
probably rebellious teens looking for some fun so they tried speaking out against you.

i'm sorry you had to encounter them.
    my apologies on their behalf.

    blessed be.

I would be very curious to know just which sites you went to. Within any given group of individuals you will find various personality types, happy, unhappy, nutty, serious to a fault, etc., it matters not what the group is; Wiccan, Christian, dog fanciers, underwater basket weavers, it doesn't matter, they will all have various personality present within them. Further more "the way" in which initial contact and conversation is initiated, will often have direct results upon the responses you will receive, in any group of people.

Do many Wiccans have an initial discomfort/mistrust/dislike of Christians? Yes, however the same could be said about many Christians towards Wiccans. However if you were to do a comparison of these two groups to determine who has a greater reason or perhaps it should be stated as real justifications for harboring these feeling towards the other, Wiccans (and Pagans) would win the rights to their feelings hands down. Do your homework these feelings are not without cause.

Persecution, torture, murder, theft, the portraying of their forbearers as the followers of and or the spawn of a Christian devil with whom they had no personal knowledge or belief in, in the first place, has create a negative disposition towards Christians in the hearts and minds of many Wiccans and Pagans. Yes the Wiccan religion is a neo-religion but many of its practices are based upon the beliefs and practices of people past who were ruthlessly persecuted, slandered, murdered, driven into hiding while having to watch silently in fear for their lives as their religious practices and beliefs were stolen and perverted in order to serve Christianity. All of this because of the Christians unquenchable thirst for power and domination, convert or die. I have often wondered just how the Christ feels about this edict carried out in his name, by men. Given this perspective, now can you tell me why would they not open up to you? They may have thought you were a Christian coming into their site to heckle them.

As for Merlin you espoused only one of the three scenarios, that I know of, regarding Merlin's birth, perhaps those whom you encountered do not accept this version and prefer or accept one of the other two or even some version that I am unaware of. This is not unlike the the schisms/variations of beliefs that exists between various sects of Christianity or many other religions really.

In regards to healthy I'll put it this way; I'm a 5'11" tall woman, 170 pounds of lean muscle mass, I work out six days a week, my short work out is three hours long, I have a Black belt in Tae-Kwon Do, I teach it and self defense, I camp and hike, and in the past I was rather handy with a hunting rifle. I am a very happy person in a very happy marriage, I am accomplished in many of the arts, I live my life with gusto and I am an eclectic solitary witch who dances sky clad regularly under the moon. I believe that stereotyping of any group of people is wrong and I rarely dress in black. I am healthy physically, mentally, and emotionally... thank-you, very much;)

If you are honestly interested in learning about the Wiccan religion may I suggest that first you learn the real history of Christianity and what it has done to others who did no and offered no harm...all of it in the name of Jesus Christ and for the glory of God. Once you understand that history and not the myth, then you can begin to explore the Wiccan religion and traditions respectfully. It seemed as if you wanted some straight talk from a Wiccan, while I am not a traditional Wiccan and identify primarily as an eclectic solitary witch who has studied their beliefs and can identify with many of them, I hope that my response will serve to stand as an acceptable substitute. All I have said I have said honestly, if you find my response offensive, understand that no personal offense was intended but upon occasion the truth can be just so.

Interesting, just popped into your about me and you identify as Druid???? This seem rather odd may I say, A Druid asking a Wiccan about Jesus Odd odd odd and even odder.

Psychologists study the term "crazy" to compare you with that term, define the differences, and then suggest advice depending on their findings.

You can't just call someone "crazy" as there are lots of people with crazy different personalities, and crazy means just one thing but very general. There are a lot of ways you can be crazy, but crazy means one thing.

In other words, don't try to convince Wiccans they are crazy, since they simply have another definition of crazy since what we consider crazy, they consider normal. Just let them be crazy, and consider themselves crazy which in turn separates them away from the rest of society. Therefore the rest of us "crazies" can live in harmony.

    Capische?

    =)

Because Christians are the only ones who have to have thick skin these days. Everybody else is a whiny bitch when their religion is questioned.

well, here is my view, and it sure is not written in stone.
I have met many who claim to be pagan or wiccan. when asked as to " which traditions or time period they prefer" they never even answer to this. I think for many it might be nothing serious or actually studied...

You don't have to hate THEM.
iF YOU WISH TO KNOW MORE ABOUT it, study it.

If they said " they hate..." they are not truly Wiccan. Nothing about what you've experienced is indicative of what Wiccan followers believe. For example, Wiccans believe in a three-fold law of retribution, so they wouldn't be sending out any negative energys as they feel those would only come back to them 3X worse! Here is as good an explanation as any: http://www.fortunecity.com/marina/pontoon/2457/id22.htm

I'm going to aitch ee double hockeysticks from all sides for this, but here is my reaction.

    * Conventional wisdom is that faeries hate the cross--I don't know about Christians but it is a safe bet that they are not out of the proverbial water. Symbols have power, though, and the Christian Cross, as /the/ emblem of the religion that has desecrated holy places without a second thought, is anathema to the spirits of nature.

    * I find it interesting that Wiccans and other Pagans will talk openly about spellwork on other websites but these people are secretive. What's up with that?

    * I don't know whether thumping your Bible was an actual purpose in visiting these sites, but most of the world is tired, to say the least, of being confronted with Christian teaching, and are likely to assume the worst unless they can be certain that that is /not/ the purpose of the discussion. I include myself in this category.

    * Most religions hold to the principle of at least trying to maintain one's health--so you're in the right here, as long as you didn't get confrontational or self-righteous about it.

    * You were actually suspended for saying Merlin was born in Wales? That's just specious and spurious, and even a little petty. Regardless of where he was born, Merlin is closely linked with Wales.

So, it sounds like a mixed bag, you partly right and they partly right with some unsettled issues. Did you actually approach them with a sincere desire to learn from them, or just to raise a ruckus?

I will say this, i am wiccan, but i do not agree with how agro they got about you trying to learn more, but you kindof have to blame yourself, if you ask someone with a different religion (no matter what religion it is that is different than yours) if they believe in Jesus Christ you are asking for alot of trouble, also the whole reason wiccans/pagans are not very keen to christianity is because in the past pagans and such were slaughtered, persecuted, and forced to convert to something they didnt believe in just so christians can try to be dominant, now we dont have the killings and such, but we still do get persecuted and looked down upon by many christians to this day, me however im open minded, i can say "hey i might be wrong they might be right" it is only the christians who say they know it all and that everyone else is wrong and their way is the only possible way that drive me up the wall. But i will say how some of the people on those sites reacted were a little rediculous.

Well that's because they don't really understand or something really is offending. how would you feel if you were very religous and wish every body beleived in your Lord and somebody was saying how they think that your bible is wrong then wouldn't you get a little touchy?

Wasn't Merlin born an old man, then he got younger and younger until he was small enough to leap into a virgin's womb?
