Why is it so difficult for an exploration spacecraft from Earth to reach Mercury?

    Getting to Mercury isn't all that difficult. The closeness of the Sun makes temperature regulation of the electronics problematical. Beyond that there is little interest in Mercury because the extreme temperatures preclude the presence of water and therefore no hope of finding signs of life.
