Question

Help answer this question below.

In the UK you can apply to be on the council housing list. If you are a priority you will be given a property which is built and owned by the council. The amount of rent you have to pay depends on your income. Is there anything similar to this in the USA?

Same thing in the U.S....but the apartments and homes are not owned by the main government. I believe these are state funded or controlled housing. The funding that makes up the difference of what you will pay comes from the government. There are rules under the program...such as you can't live with your children's father and stuff like that. A Democratic government is not really designed to take care of its lower class, low income or disabled citizens...America has a free market economy....supply and demand....so low income housing has a negative image here, and it is often in a high crime area, depending on the State you live in...but you could live in a separate house here...and pay lower rent...and no one would know it.

Yes. Public housing exists in the U.S. The populations prioritized are women, infants, children, and the disabled. The programs are state-centric, so you have to investigate the individual states. Federal programs assist the payment of state programs, but there is no federal program/ federal system.
