  • I'm not a physician or an optometrist, so I can't offer you an official diagnosis. Yellow sclera (the whites of the eyes) are commonly a result of jaundice, which is caused by too much bilirubin in the blood. This, in turn, is often the result of a blocked bile duct or liver problems. Vitamin K shots are given to hospital-born babies if they develop jaundice; however, these cases are usually because the liver has not fully matured, but does within a week. Prevention of adult jaundice can be accomplished by having clean drinking water and good hygienic habits. Most jaundice cases can be treated with rest and eating healthy, nutritious, clean food. Some extreme cases may require medication. In any case, you should get yourself examined in order to get an official diagnosis.
  • Certain medications, such as tetracycline, can cause the whites of the eyes to yellow.
  • Before considering a diagnosis, further questions must be asked about the overall health of the eye, the overall health of the body, previous or current medical conditions and previous or current ocular conditions. How long has the eye been "yellowish"? Has the degree of "yellowish" changed at all over time? Some eyes are naturally more "yellowish" than others. Some eyes may have become more "yellowish" due to smoking, UV light, or other environmental irritants. Various systemic and ocular diseases can also cause a "yellowish" color. For a healthy disease-free individual whose eyes are "yellowish" over a long period of time with no change and no significant environmental irritation, the cause of the "yellowish" color is assumed to be innate to that individual (genetic). Various remedies have been suggested (drinking excessive water, vitamins, etc). To my knowledge, these remedies have not had proven scientific studies regarding success or failure.
  • I presume you mean the white of your eyes. If you are talking about the iris being yellow, a lot of eyes have streaks of yellowish areas, most of those areas specifically depict certain elements that can pertain to illness or hereditary pecularaties, an iridologist can usually dechiper those yellow lines and streaks. If however the white of the eye is yellow, yes it is usually caused by a raised level of jaundice, which is associated with the liver. Some people have a hereditary tendancay to a slightly raised bilirubin level, its a hederitray condition, that doesnt seem to have any other main symptoms, or cause any discomfort to the sufferer. My husband is one of these sufferers. I have recalled the name of this disorder, it is called gilberts disease, andunfortunately there is no real treatment or altering of the disorder.
  • GEt it checked by a doctor. It could also have to do with the level of air pollution in your environment. If there's a substanstial level of smoke and dryness in the air, splash your eyes with cold water regularly. i was also prescribed lubricating eyedrops during hot, sunny weather. increase intake of vit. a, i like to eat baby carrots with a favourite dip. of course drink enough water.
  • Sounds like jaundice. Is your skin lightly shaded yellow as well? If it continued it might be a cause for concern as it is sort of a window to your liver health.
