    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

In the year 2010, the National Retail Federation's survey reports that the flower industry earned $1,335,200,000 from Americans for flowers on Valentine's Day. Due to an economic crisis, this number was slightly lower than previous years.

Supply and Demand is what runs up rose prices at Valentines. Growers typically lose one cutting season just for Valentines. They cut back roses or pinch back so they can have the supply needed to sustain the market on that one day. This inturn increases the price that they are sold for on the open market. This is a perishable product and so the increase is necessary to cover the cost at the farming level. Inturn, they are sold to wholesalers, who sell to florists. The price increase is passed on, usually double what the normal price usually is. From the Florists view, we have to hire more help, more drivers, to handle the demand, which increases our costs to provide a quality product. So inturn, our markup is about the same after all other costs are added in, just more volume. Most other flowers stay around the same price during the time of the year, maybe an increase due to weather might raise some flower prices more than others. A regular Dozen Long Stem Roses in a standard Vase is usually $60 - 75.00 during the year, and usually during Valentines, they are $75.00 - 95.00. Prices go down or up for Quality, Lenght, Vase, and filler. Remember to order from a reputable Local Florist Shop. You will get value, quality and service. Happy Valentines Day!
