You are talking about the "Plymouth Brethren", founded in 1828 in England. They split in 1848 into two main branches called "Open" and "Exclusive". Their primary church service is a communion service called "Breaking of Bread" or "The Lord's Supper". This service has no formal structure, but members "wait on the Lord" to lead certain ones to suggest a hymn, read scripture, pray, etc. At some random time during the service the members will take communion. The focus of the service is primarily on the death of Christ and how His death atoned for sin.

As you indicate, in most congregations the women members wear hats or veils, and do not take part in the service except to sing the hymns and take communion. Also there usually are no musical instruments used. Most do not have formal clergy, only elders and deacons.

The Plymouth Brethren are famous mostly for popularizing the idea of the pre-tribulational rapture. Their early writers also contributed just about everything the modern evangelical churches believe about end-times prophesy, and the doctrine of "dispensationalism".
