Consdering only reducing the temperature inside the house it's better to open the windows only when it's colder outside. Assuming no heating/air conditioning it will tend to be colder outside the house in the night and in the early morning, and warmer outside during the day and the early evening. However, if there's enough wind outside, even a small draft through the house can make it feel several degrees cooler (the wind-chill effect).

good answer, if no a/c keep shut past say 10am but get a fan. fact... a 20 degree temp difference is uncomfortable, meaning if its 95 outside and your in it for awhile then enter a house that is 75 you will be cold

Keep them shut...and if u have something dark to cover the glass then its much better...Like i use Curtians.....they are really heavy and never allow sunlight to enter my room.....and it helps me to keep my room dark and cool....

Open at night, closed (and shades/blinds drawn) during the day. Works fairly well to conserve energy and keep the house a little cooler without the use of A/C.
