The brain's fuction has not always been understood. The ancient Egytians, when preparing a body for mummification, would remove and preserve the internal organs seperately in special jars, but would usually discard the brain. The center of your being has been identified with the heart and other internal organs in various times and cultures. Even now, we use the word "heart" to distinguish our deep emotions from the rationality we associate with our brain.
