Help answer this question below.

I'm 17 and my boyfriend is soon to be 21. If the legal age of consent for New York state is 17, is it legal for us to be dating?

    It would have been legal for you to be dating either way...

    The age of consent is the age which you are allowed to have sex, and since you are that age.. that's fine! It's 16 in the UK.. So I see nothing wrong with that whatsoever!

    Actually, you can date anyone of any age so long as your parents don't object.
    In New York the age-of-consent is 17, so on or after your 17th birthday you may also have sex with anyone you choose.
    The proper age to have sex is when TWO people want to do it, and I've never understood how some State could be offended by me having consensual sex at any age.
    Personal relationships are totally no damn business of any level of government.
    Parents rules are all together another matter... ;~)

    Yes. The "age of consent" means you can have legally give your permission to have sex. The other party could be 50 (ew..I know).

    It is abosolutey legal for you to be DATING. I'm not from New York so I don't know the laws, but if you say the legal age is 17 then I don't see the problem, however you should think of holding off sex until your 18, because in some places there are laws that state an adult (18+) are prohibited to have sex with minors.
