Both birds belong to the family Anatidae, but are have distinct characteristics. The goose (male--gander) is a medium to large bird and makes a honking call. ("True geese" belong to the subfamily Anserinae.) Non-domesticated geese are very migratory, flying from far north to far south. Geese eat a vegetarian diet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goose http://education.yahoo.com/reference/encyclopedia/entry?id=19498 The duck (male--drake) is smaller than the goose and the female often has a call more similar to "quack". (Contrary to popular belief, it does echo.) Ducks belong to several different subfamilies. Almost all domesticated ducks (excluding some in Central America) are descended from the Mallard, so they have very similar forms. Some duck species don't migrate, and some moult before migration, temporarily rendering them flightless. Many ducks eat fish, amphibians, and insects. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duck http://education.yahoo.com/reference/encyclopedia/entry?id=14389

I really wouldn't know. I ask the question myself. Obviously, the biggest duck is still a bit smaller than a normal sized goose. I didn't know that geese are vegetarian.

Geese are larger than ducks, and the honk instead of quack. Geese have very long necks while ducks have relatively shorter ones. Plus duck nostrils are very high up their bills whereas the nostril holes for geese are very low down their bills. Both sexes are colored the same in geese, but different in ducks. Geese eat mostly on grass and grazing across meadowlands. Ducks eat near on on water, bugs, weeds, waterplants.
